How Does Seedling Tray Prevent Roots From Tying Down

May 07, 2023

It is very necessary to lay a layer of straw under the bottom of the hole tray, which has the following three advantages.

First of all, a layer of straw at the bottom of the hole disc can prevent seedling roots from digging into the soil and reduce the occurrence of root breakage when moving. If the seedling tray is placed directly on the ground, the root system will extend into the earth through the hole at the bottom of the hole tray after overgrowing in the hole. When the hole tray is moved, part of the root system will be pulled off, causing root injury. A layer of straw at the bottom of the seedling tray solves this problem.

Second, the roots are avoided from touching the soil, reducing the chance of invasion of soil-borne diseases. Put the seedling tray on the ground directly. As long as the seedling roots grow out of the bottom of the hole, they will have the opportunity to contact the soil, and harmful bacteria in the soil may invade the roots. A layer of straw at the bottom will eliminate this possibility.

Thirdly, it can play the role of regulating the environment under the disk. After laying straw under the seedling tray, the permeability of the bottom increases, making it easier for oxygen to enter the substrate, and water is not easy to form at the bottom after watering, which is conducive to the growth of roots. At the same time, it has the characteristics of fast heating and good moisturizing.
